With Le Tour du Monde des Danses Urbaines en Dix Villes, Ana Pi, Cecilia Bengolea, François Chaignaud invite us around the world through its dances. This tour of the world takes the form of a danced conference, interpreted by Ana Pi, who seeks to enlarge the perception of urban dance in an original manner, going beyond the simplistic equating of urban dance with hip hop. The personal journey in ten cities throughout the world evokes the immense variety of dances created, practiced and shown off on the street. The conference offers a general overview of a selection of urban dances: the Krump in Los Angeles, Dancehall in Kingston, the Pantsula in Johannesburg and Voguing in New York. For each leg of the journey, the geographical, social and cultural context linked to each of these dances is explained, the characteristics in terms of movement, posture and the means of practice, such as associated music and dress styles. Video and photography illustrate the styles, the performance evokes the complexity of the dances with enthusiasm, empathy and simplicity. At the end of the conference, the public receives a pamphlet, illustrated by artist Juan Saenz Valiente, in which each dance is the subject of a caricature along with brief notes summing up the principal information of the performance.

Artist, choreographer, urban dance researcher, contemporary dancer and pedagogue, Ana Pi graduated from the School of Dance of the Universidade Federal of Bahia, in Brazil, where she studied Pedagogy and the creation of contemporary dance. IN 2009/10, she studied dance and images at the Centre Corégraphique National of Montpellier, in France, in the program EX.E.R.C.E. and under the direction of Mathilde Monnier. Circulation, variation, origin, superimposition, memory, colours, ordinary actions and gestures are the fundamental elements of her creative practice and her teaching. She collaborates with other artists on projects of various natures and durations. Currently, she is involved in presenting her conference on urban dance, already offered in Brazil, Europe and, most recently, Africa.
