Alcune coreografie

The choreography is built through the mimesis of a large amount of video fragments tightly edited, digging across dance and performance history, passing through cinema and the internet, looking for a sensible kinetic matter.
The dancer embodies, transforms, connects and actualizes the body of the image, explores its dynamic, its freedom and linguistic immediacy without a privileged point of view, she eradicates it from the imaginary executing an exact and precise choreography. During the second part, an original video by artist Roberto Fassone offers a sequence of visual choreographies, a symbolic landscape where the human figure is absent but still looks for a relationship with the body on stage and ponders on that intangible matter which dance itself is made of.

Notes on Short Theatre 2020

What else is your work about, besides what is already told in the synopsis?

audio transcription:

It is about dance that speaks of dance through dance, confusing with it until producing new images. It is also about what is out of frame – using a cinematic term. This work would like to free dance from the power of the image through which it often ends up referring to something other than itself, to begin referring only to itself instead. Everything is decontextualized to be readapted at the present scene in a new form, always searching for other meanings, as if only in the non-place of detachment lies the true shape of things, their dynamics.

Who or what—real or imaginary, present, past or future—do you think contributed to the creation of this work? Is there any object/trace you own that can make this clear?

What do you imagine you will say about this work in fifteen years time? Would you ever have imagined making such work fifteen years ago?

“I don’t know how I spent all that time editing those damn videos, merging on the scene years of parsimonious collection of images on dance: I have archived them, analyzed them, looking at them a thousand times in a compulsive way to find common kinetic elements. Only Ramona and Roberto could support me on that journey… ”
Fifteen years ago, in 2005, I was studying in Rotterdam. In the school library I had access to a lot of stock footage of shows, I could easily burn them to study.
Maybe this whole project started right there…
