IN SHORT⟶ Emerging artist Nunzia Picciallo will present the preliminary stages of her new project as a choreographer. Lemmy B. endeavors to dismantle rules and conventions through a dramaturgy of movement and sound, revealing an unforeseen subjectivity that acts as a transformative force.
In the performance Lemmy B., Nunzia Picciallo investigates choreography with regard to its alignment with desire. The sound dramaturgy centres on the body as it engages in sensitive awareness. The dynamic composition of bodily postures deconstructs the rules and conventions that typically govern and regulate standard behaviours.
In the intimate space crafted by Lemmy B., the figure opens herself to an immediate, non-predetermined flow: a creative process that is adaptive and continuously evolving, experimenting with the act of performing to exceed the superficial aspects of skin. The work suggests a radical stance that does not await guidance but acts instinctively.
Nunzia Picciallo presents at Short Theatre 2024 the preparatory work for her project Lemmy B., supported by Short Theatre within the network Boarding Pass Plus Dance, in collaboration with the Portuguese festival Materiais Diversos, Agrupamento de Escolas de Alcanena and União das Freguesias de Alcanena e Vila Moreira for a production residency.
Nunzia Picciallo is a multidisciplinary artist. Their works encompass dance, performance and visual arts. Her creative process and constantly evolving practice revolve around the body and its movement, and often its relationship with media and other devices. Her creations have been presented on international stages and she has been awarded several prizes as the Performance Prize at the 27th International Solo Tanz-Theater in Stuttgart, followed by a tour in Germany. They are the recipient of the SAI Festival Prize (Japan), the Premio Masdanza (Canaries Islands), and the Premio Incentivo alla scrittura coreografica Cortoindanza 2023. In 2022 she was selected for the showcase of young dance authors and in 2021 won the Circle Contemporary Dance Contest. Nunzia Picciallo also holds workshops on movement and Gaga Movement Language classes for dance professionals and people from different backgrounds.
