Why your support is essential
Short Theatre is an independent reality that places experimentation and innovation in the field of contemporary performing arts at the core of its activity. Making this possible is a complex and fragile system of economic support, particularly stemming from public funding calls and applications. The horizon of artistic creation and dissemination is by definition mutable, yet what has never changed over 21 years of history is the dedication and commitment with which Short Theatre pursues its mission: to embody a vision where art, culture, and sociality are interconnected and indispensable elements for the existence of a just, inclusive, democratic society.
Over the years, ST has continuously expanded its scope of action and its capacity to intervene within the urban fabric, as well as within the national and international contexts it engages with, relying on a vibrant and committed community alongside the professionalism and passion of its team.
The precarity of its organisational structure, however, remains profound—within a challenging context for the entire sector—and does not correspond to the quality of its artistic proposal nor to the value of the social impact generated by the festival. For this reason, the support of institutions, companies, associations, and individuals is now crucial. Short Theatre is first and foremost, and will always be, a passionate and ever-evolving community, to which everyone contributes as they can, and which depends on the warmth, proximity, and complicity of all its components: artists, colleagues working across the fields of art and culture, institutional and non-institutional partners, students, researchers, social practitioners, and anyone who embraces this vision—out of passion, chance, or curiosity.
Art is not a concept, but a collective process that feeds on participation and transforms the reality of those who make it possible.
Every contribution makes a difference
With your support, you will help to:
- Ensure continuity to an international artistic project that since 2006 has offered a unique space in Rome for vision, discovery, encounter, and learning;
- Support an organisation committed to an inclusive, horizontal, and independent model of cultural work;
- Strengthen the festival’s organisational structure by ensuring fairer compensation for staff and companies;
- Support emerging creativity, offering professional opportunities to young artists and experimenting with models of paid training;
- Enable an international programme spanning European and extra-European scenes, while fostering the international mobility of local artists;
- Keep the festival accessible to audiences from all social backgrounds, maintaining affordable ticket prices and developing targeted outreach campaigns (students, marginalised communities, elderly audiences, etc.);
- Strengthen the festival’s capacity to invest in innovative and experimental projects, encouraging artistic research and promoting the circulation and discovery of non-conventional formats among a wide audience;
- Allow the festival to structurally implement key accessibility and environmental sustainability tools, now essential yet never systematically funded. These include: the development of accessibility devices for audiences and artists with disabilities, the use of low-impact materials and equipment, the implementation of digital technologies, and the creation and consolidation of the festival’s multimedia archive.
