Sorelle di damiano

Variazione No.2

Variazione No.2 by and with Sorelle di damiano takes the form of a collective nightmare, a shared unconscious that reflects the sense of loss of the present. The work originates from a desire to give tangible form to a widespread sense of disorientation, in which emotional and sensory points of reference dissolve, and the stability of relationships and spaces becomes unattainable. It is not a linear narrative, but a flow of images, sounds and presences that create a fragmented sensory journey hanging between control and collapse. Every gesture, every sonic or visual vibration contributes to exploring a fragile and changing substance, where perception disintegrates and reassembles itself in constant variations. Inhabiting this unstable landscape becomes impossible. No place offers shelter, no word guarantees understanding. Power manifests itself everywhere but provides neither guidance nor protection, allowing the vulnerability of bodies, objects and relationships to emerge. Variazione No.2 highlights the failure of intimacy and listening, revealing precariousness as a structural condition of existence.

Sorelle di damiano are also present at Short Theatre 2026 with Variazione No.1, on September 10 and 11.

Sorelle di damiano is a Milan-based performance duo founded by Sofia Pazzocco and Simona Tedeschini, who studied at the Civica Paolo Grassi. Sorelle di damiano places the body, sound and space at the centre of its artistic exploration as subjects for reflection on contemporary life. A material, non-narrative body that expresses its power through the quality of its articulation and the interaction with its surroundings. Their gaze is directed towards the perception of otherness and is attentive to the relationship with sound. They explore forms of irony that exorcise themes such as unease, inadequacy and ambiguity. Their works take the form of a social, intersectional and political dialogue, aiming to provoke reflection and raise open-ended questions about the discomforts of the contemporary world. They create projects such as Nimic (2020), winner of the 2022 Dominio Pubblico Festival, produced by Anghiari Dance Hub 2022 and presented at Spazio KORPER 2023. Follow (2023), a project presented at the Fog Triennale Milano 2023 and Tiq Teatro in quota 2024, was co-produced by Ariella Vidach and Triennale Milano. Variazione No.1, produced by Klm-mk (2023), supported by TAGLI 2023 and winner of Residanza 2023, was presented at Terreni Creativi 2023, Teatro Mercadante, BUFFALO 2024 at MACRO, Centro Twain, Teatro Bastardo 2024, Racconti di altre danze, Officine Caos, Emersi Festival. The project was hosted in artistic residency at spazioK.Kinkaleri – Regional Residency Centre, Spazio Rossellini and Officine CAOS. PERSONA (2025) was created for ABA Catanzaro and produced by KLm-mk. Variazione No.2 (2025), produced by KLm-mk, was presented in its development phase at Contemporanea Focus danza 2025 at fabbricone, spazio k.kinkaleri, Spazio Marameo and IPERIBLEO x SPAZIOMENSA.
