CLASSE is a project of transmission, compromise, blending and mixing, invented pedagogies and radical imagination. CLASSE is a space for words and thoughts that combines a public programme with the creation of an ongoing working group, moving through the Short Theatre 2026’s programme and beyond.
Every day for 10 days, artists, poets, activists, philosophers and researchers are invited to give a short talk starting from a specific word / issue / practice. Discover all the other appointments that constitute the public programme of CLASSE.
Dead blondes, Final girls, bad mothers, possessed little girls: iconic monsters of horror cinema — what do they have to tell us? What historical and social fears are inscribed in the monstrous bodies of horror movies? In what ways can studying the horror genre become a tool for reading mechanisms of oppression and imagining forms of resistance?
In this CLASSE on horror cinema, Teodora Grano explores the concept of the “monstrous-feminine” developed by Barbara Creed from Julia Kristeva’s theory of abjection. If for Kristeva the abject destabilises identity and symbolic order, Creed shows how horror cinema has historically constructed the female body — sexual, maternal, desiring — as the privileged site of fear. Exploring the concept of “radical abjection” in contemporary cinema, the monstrous-feminine becomes a creatrix that generates a new semantics of being. The CLASSE incorporates feminist film theory, fandom and internet culture, assembling academic and pop sources while moving between essays, rankings, memes and unsolicited comments.
Teodora Grano is a writer, performer and independent researcher. She has worked without a fixed base in the fields of theatre, circus, performance and dance, in formats more or less orthodox. She works regularly with CollettivO CineticO. Her research is grounded in a future literature, in which the relationship between writing and body places reading at the centre of inquiry. 50% punk, 30% ironic, 20% dead serious.
