IN SHORT ⟶ A scenic dialogue between two performers unfolds as a gradual layering of physical and vocal techniques, reminiscent of the structure of a fossil. Like fossils, which bear witness to the passage of time and life, these presences embody the potential for a connection between bodies at the border between the organic and inorganic.
On the blurred border between organic and inorganic, between life and non-life, the fossil is a material and poetic testimony to the flow and stratification of time: Annamaria Ajmone‘s new performance, I pianti e i lamenti dei pesci fossili, draws inspiration from this universe to build relationships between bodies across times that are immeasurably distant and different. It aims at mourning the eternal cycle of the transformation of matter, life and death, in the context of the Sixth Extinction.
The possibilities of the relationship are explored by the dancers’ bodies through two interfaces: the skin or membrane, which acts as a motor of movement connecting the inside and outside of the body, and the air, which is crossed by their voices and transformed into a “space before any localisation”. The work takes the form of a progressive stratification of bodily and vocal practices that recall the very structure of the fossil.
Annamaria Ajmone is a dancer and choreographer. At the centre of her practice is the body, intended as a malleable and changeable matter. Her research manifests itself in a sprawling way, through different formats and durations. The performances are the result of collective work, born from meetings and discussions in which it is ultimately complex to identify the ownership of the artistic object. She presents her works in numerous dance, theatre and performing arts festivals and theatres including: Torino Danza (Turin), Fog Festival (Milan) La Biennale Danza (Venice), Santarcangelo Festival, La casa encendida (Madrid), Brut (Vienna), Bit-teatergarasje (Bergen), Palais de Tokyo (Paris). In 2015 she won the “Danza & Danza” award as “Best Contemporary Emerging Performer”. She also organizes Nobody’s Indiscipline, a platform for the exchange of practices. She is an associate artist of the Triennale Milano Teatro 2021-2024.
